When living with pets in a coastal area such as Eastern North Carolina, whether you’ve seen a flea or not, it’s important to follow a flea control program. This helps prevent an infestation as well as to get one under control.
An effective flea control program treats both your pet and also it’s indoor and outdoor environment. Keep in mind that there are four stages in a flea’s life cycle. The adult stage is the one we’re most familiar with, but it only represents 1% to 5% of the flea population.
The key to controlling fleas is to consistently interrupt their life cycle at an immature stage, the stages we normally don’t see, so that the fleas do not develop into adults. Knowing what fleas need to survive will help you to do this.
